We look forward to your arrival at U.C. Berkeley and meeting you at the Scholar Information Meeting (SIMs), which you are required to attend within the first two weeks of your arrival.

To ensure a smooth transition through U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and to the Berkeley campus, you are required to notify Berkeley International Office of your arrival date as soon as possible by completing the steps below.  In some cases, you may need an amended J-1 Form DS-2019 if you are arriving later than initially planned so you will not encounter problems at the U.S. port-of-entry.

If you are coming to UC Berkeley from within the U.S., do NOT complete the steps below. Instead, phone Berkeley International Office at 510-642-2818 before your UC Berkeley start date to schedule an appointment with an advisor to discuss the transfer or change of status process.

Your Form DS-2019
Your Form DS-2019 will help you logon to the website noted below. To logon, your information must be entered exactly as it is listed on your Form DS-2019, including your SEVIS ID number (it is the number in the upper right-hand corner of your DS-2019 and begins with the letter “N” followed by 10 digits).

Step 1:  Before Your Arrival in the U.S.
Before your DS-2019 start date (but no later than 14 days after the start date on your DS-2019), logon at http://jvs.berkeley.edu/.  Complete the information on that site.  Please also contact your UC Berkeley host department to inform them of your arrival dates and U.S. residential address (if known).

Step 2:  After Your Arrival
No later than 14 days after your DS-2019 start date, logon to http://jvs.berkeley.edu/ again to inform us of your actual date of arrival in the U.S. and your local, U.S. residential address.  This can include a hotel or temporary residence.  It cannot include a Post Office (P.O.) Box or Departmental address.

The information you provide in the two steps above is required by the U.S. government; it is important that it be completed accurately and as early as possible.
