Berkeley International Office uses the Federal Express company to express mail documents. DHL service is not available at this time.  If you must use DHL for your country because FedEx service is not available, please contact DHL directly and make complete arrangements with them.  It may be easier to have your documents sent to or picked up by another person who will then make DHL arrangements for you.

Payment for Federal Express service is accepted by one of the following methods:

1) Check or International Money Order to Berkeley International Office
($50 USD for international delivery)
($40 USD for delivery within the U.S.)

  • Check or money order must be drawn in US funds
  • Check or money order must be made payable to "International House"
  • Write your name and Cal ID number on front of the check or money order
  • Send check or money order directly to Berkeley International Office, or have someone deliver it for you. Include a brief note describing the purpose.

The check or money order must be received in our office before we can mail your documents via FedEx. If you are not able to provide the payment in advance, you may consider asking a friend or family member who lives in the area to visit our office or mail the check to us (Please attach a note to the check in this case with your name and student ID number).

2) Your Own Federal Express Account
If you do not have currently have a FedEx account, contact your local FedEx office directly to create a FedEx account or go to www.fedex.com and create one online.  Once you have established your account, do the following:

  1. Create an "Airway Bill" mailing label with your street delivery address (not a P.O. box), and phone number. Print it out from the Fed Ex web site. Your electronic Airway Bill must have a bar code and say "Bill Recipient" or "Bill Third Party".  If it says "Bill Sender", it will not be used.

  2. Mail the printed Airway Bill with your NIF attachments or email the Airway Bill label as a PDF file to Berkeley International Office.  Describe the purpose of the airway bill in a brief note so we know why you are sending it.

If you submit a handmade or typed carbon copy of a FedEx International Airway Bill instead of one printed from the web site, make sure that your account number or the third party account number is written or typed on the form.

Important: Please always provide your complete mailing address and phone number, as FedEx will not deliver without this information. FedEx does not deliver to P.O. boxes, so you must provide a street, home, or business address.

3) Express Service By a Third Party
If you cannot arrange payment for FedEx service, you can ask to have your documents mailed to someone else who could then send your documents by FedEx or other courier service. You can make this arrangement with a friend, family member, or through another department on the UC Berkeley campus (please contact them for permission). If you wish to use this option, provide us with the name and address of the person who will pick up your documents or to whom we should mail your documents.
