The following partial list of "things to do" is for new international students. These are business matters you'll want to take care of before classes begin.

 Attend the Check-In and Orientation Meeting
Bring your passport, I-20/DS-2019 and I-94 with you to complete your immigration check-in at Berkeley.

 Attend your other orientation meetings
Many academic departments, colleges, and even dormitories have their own orientation programs with important and useful information.

 Find housing accommodations
If you do not have housing, visit CAL Housing and Cal Rentals and see also Finding Housing  

 Get your Cal 1 Card (student identity card)

 Get your Class Pass
The Class Pass allows free bus rides on campus shuttles and the Alameda County (AC) Transit buses, which run throughout the East Bay and to San Francisco. Parking passes and transit tickets are available at the Parking and Transportation office.

 Explore your computing options
If you need to buy a computer, the Scholars Workstation is a good place to start, as they often offer discounts to students. If you do not own a computer, the University has many free computer labs on campus through the Workstation and Microcomputer Facilities department.

 Set up your campus email account- CALMAIL
Go online for your free campus email account – essential for all UCB students.

 Update your local address
You are required to update your local address, phone and email address online through Bear Facts as soon as possible.  Your immigration registration will not be complete until you have done so.

 Pay your tuition and fees
Fees may be paid in full or in installments at the Cashier's Office in University Hall or online through Bear Facts.

 Meet your Academic Adviser and enroll

  • New graduate students  - check with your department for instructions on class enrollment.
  • New undergraduate students - New undergraduate students should have already enrolled through Tele-Bears.  If you have not enrolled for classes go to 120 Sproul Hall for further information. EAP students who have not registered should contact their college adviser

 Buy your textbooks

 Visit the University Health Services
The Tang Center offers health, pharmaceutical, and counseling services, as well as information on insurance issues.
