TN Mexican and Canadian Professional Workers

This visa classification became available on January 1994 as a part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Only Canadian and Mexican citizens are eligible for TN status.

The TN category permits Canadian or Mexican citizens entry to the U.S. to be employed in certain designated professions, and/or engage in certain designated professional activities. Under the regulations, "professional level" means those undertakings which require that, for successful completion, the individual has at least a baccalaureate degree or appropriate credentials demonstrating status as a professional.

UC Berkeley Employment

All requests for TN status for UC Berkeley employees come through Berkeley International Office. Campus units must consult with Berkeley International Office before a prospective employee enters the U.S. as a TN to determine if this is the appropriate status in a particular case.

If your department at UC Berkeley is interested in supporting a petition for you to have TN status, please ask the department's administratrative assistant to contact an Employment-Based Adviser at 510 642 2818 or at h1b@berkeley.edu for more information.
