About the Program
Global Pen Pals is a one-on-one pairing program where BIO matches an international student to another student (either domestic or international) to allow students to make connections from a distance, and take part in cultural exchange. The goal of the program is to connect UC Berkeley students from across the world during a time when they may not be able to be present physically in the US or on campus, as well as to increase cross-cultural exposure and international learning.
By communicating regularly with domestic students, international students will be able to experience the American culture first-hand and practice their English, and domestic students will have the opportunity to develop a better understanding about another culture(s) that they are interested in. Above all, this program is about making new friends and having fun with people from around the world!
Participants should be committed to communicating with their pen pal at least once every 2 weeks. The program is structured around discussion themes to help guide conversation and prompt discussion throughout the semester. Communication will be done primarily over email, although physical letters are also encouraged!
