January 31, 2020

On January 31, 2020 President Trump issued a Presidential Proclamation entitled Proclamation on Improving Enhanced Vetting Capabilities and Processes for Detecting Attempted Entry to take effect on February 21, 2020. This Presidential Proclamation restricts entry on immigrant visas for citizens and nationals of Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria and entry as Diversity Immigrants for citizens and nationals of Sudan and Tanzania.

I am here on an F or J student or scholar visa! Does this "Travel Ban" apply to me?No! This Presidential Proclamation only impacts individuals entering on immigrant and Diversity immigrant visas, i.e. "Green Card" or Diversity Lottery "Green Card" visa applicants. But, because the current U.S. immigration policy is changing moment-to-moment, BIO urges extreme caution for individuals from the six countries choosing to travel, and recommends consultation with BIO prior to departure from the United States.
