On Campus Employment
Students who have been withdrawn for a semester or more and are returning to resume their full-time program as F-1 or J-1 students are eligible to begin working on campus after the first day of classes for their new term.
- F-1 students do not require work authorization to begin working on the UC Berkeley campus.
- J-1 students must obtain an employment authorization letter from Berkeley International Office to begin working.
Off-Campus Employment
To be eligible to work off-campus, F-1 and J-1 students are required to have been in valid immigration status for at least one academic year.
F-1 or J-1 students who have been withdrawn for a semester or more and have returned to UC Berkeley may or may not be eligible for off-campus employment, depending on the reason for the withdrawal. Due to the complexity of this matter, it is best to consult with an Advisor in Berkeley International Office before beginning any off-campus employment after a semester or more of withdrawal from UC Berkeley.
