Serving as a BIO Peer Mentor is a meaningful opportunity to support new international students as they transition to life at UC Berkeley.  In this role, you’ll help students connect with campus resources, build community, and feel more at home—all while developing valuable skills and experiences that will benefit your future goals. And of course, you’ll have a lot of fun along the way!

As a Peer Mentor, you will help create a welcoming environment by leading a variety of activities, including one-on-one check-ins with your mentees, as well as group programs and events. Through these engagements, you’ll introduce your mentees to campus life and support them in making the most of their Berkeley experience.

You will also serve as a representative of both the Berkeley International Office and UC Berkeley, and be one of the first friendly and supportive contacts new students will meet. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist first year and transfer students with their transitions

  • Facilitate and/or execute meetings, programs, and events for your mentees

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with your mentees during the summer as well as the Fall semester

  • Participate in and help coordinate program-wide events

  • Communicate one-on-one with your mentees

  • Attend trainings and development sessions

  • Complete reports

  • Actively participate in other BIO programming and perform other duties as assigned
